That really was unusable, particularly without a touch screen, and the only way to fix it was to install Classic Shell (makes it look like Win7). Probably just as well that you didn't try Win8. But W7 was infected by SMB malware (not my fault) so there's no going back. Judging by Task Manager, it's using more memory to run the same stuff. It has very little to offer me over W7, and seems slower. I tried it over a year ago and didn't like it. MPC-HC really helped by displaying a dialog saying "To change your default apps, go to Settings > System > Default apps." Fortunately W10 provides top-level categories for Music, Photo, and Video. I was unable to select Irfanview for photos, Acrobat for PDF, and MPC-HC for videos. With a left-handed mouse, left click = right click and vice versa, so the old menu (left click) contains old stuff like the control panel, and the new menu (right click) contains new stuff like Settings and the alphabetic list of applications.įile suffix associations were annoying. I decided to go with the following: Retain the double Start menus, delete tiles one by one to eliminate the tiles area, and put all useful application icons in the taskbar.
